Last week the fourth grade visited Old World Wisconsin. They learned about life as a Norwegian immigrant, visited a schoolhouse from 1904, and learned about early pioneers and the simple machines they used. It was a great day of hands-on learning! #WalworthJ1 #OldWolrdWisconsin

The second graders at Walworth Elementary School took advantage of an amazing opportunity to learn basic water safety knowledge and skills through the YMCA Splash-Safety Around Water program. Given the community’s proximity to local lake access, it is easy to realize the importance and necessity of this program. The 5-week program was offered free of charge as it is funded by the YMCA and supported by generous donations from the community. Through “Jump, Push, Turn, Grab” and “Swim, Float, Swim”, the second graders gained confidence around the water and learned essential skills to prevent drowning. Mrs. Cullen, Mrs. Cruz and their second graders would like to thank the community and the administrative team at Walworth School for their support, Dousman Transport Co. Inc. for their safe transportation, and the exceptional staff at the Geneva Lakes Family YMCA for their invaluable instruction!

Addi, in Ms. Boldger's Junior Kindergarten Class, presented the letter "Gg" with her family for their "Story, Snack and Surprise" presentation. We were GREETED by the most adorable GOATS in the GALAXY!!! "Honey" and "Tigger" seemed so GLAD to see us and they made us GIGGLE all afternoon! We got to feed them bottles and they really GULPED down the warm milk. It was hard to say GOODBYE to them, but we did love our GRAPES and frosted GRAHAM crackers for snack!
Thank you Addi and family for such a GREAT day! You made our GROUP so happy!

That's a wrap! The last day in DC rained the whole day, but the 8th graders didn't let that dampen their spirits! One highlight of the day was meeting Congressman Bryan Steil at the Capitol Building. Here are some other events of the day:
Capitol Building Tour
Korean War Memorial
Vietnam War Memorial
Lincoln Memorial
The National Museum of African American History and Culture
Until next time, DC!

All fourth-grade students will be offered a free white pine to take home today and plant. For over forty years the Wisconsin DNR has made a free Arbor Day tree seedling available to every fourth-grade student in the state. Every year, thousands of classrooms take advantage of receiving these small, bare-root seedlings that are grown at a state nursery. Our state does this to teach children about the importance of trees as a renewable resource. Happy Arbor Day Wildcats! 🌲

Day 2 in DC!!! The 8th graders were very busy! Each student was given a carnation to place at either the Pentagon Memorial or at a grave site at Arlington National Cemetery. At the cemetery, the students witnessed the Changing of the Guard ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the final resting places for JFK, Audie Murphy, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and many others, as well as many memorials, including Women in Military and the Challenger Shuttle.
Mount Vernon
Pentagon 9/11 Memorial
Arlington National Cemetery
Marines Memorial - Iwo Jima
Dinner at Union Station
Alexandria Ghost and Graveyard Tour
Excited about what they will learn and see on their last day in DC!

Walworth's 7th grade students attended an expo at Gateway Technical College. They were given opportunities to tour multiple areas of the college to learn about different career opportunities. This aligns with our school's implementation of ACP (Academic and Career Planning) program. Students are encouraged to explore more about their interests, learn about career possibilities, post-high school education. We learned about a variety of careers in IT, manufacturing, health sciences, and public safety. It's never too early to start thinking about your future!

Today, a group of Walworth 8th graders made their way to Washington DC. They are learning a ton and making great memories! On the first day, they visited:
Smithsonian American History Museum
Smithsonian Museum of Natural History
Holocaust Museum
National Archives Museum
White House (viewing)
Dr. Martin Luther King Memorial
Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial
Thomas Jefferson Memorial
We can't wait to see what happens on Day 2!
