The projected property tax impact of an approved April 4 referendum will be $253.07 (in year one), $275.44 (year two), and $295.12 (year three) annually for every $100,000 of assessed property value.
The Board of Education takes seriously its responsibility to respect the needs of our property taxpayers. Over the years, we have managed to do more with less by maintaining spending while expanding learning opportunities for students.
However, it has become increasingly difficult to attract and retain high-quality staff and meet the increasing needs of our learners, as school funding has not kept pace with rising expenses.

On Tuesday, April 4, residents of the Walworth Joint School District #1 will vote on an operational referendum question. An approved referendum would provide the district with additional funding to support programs and services for students for the next three years.
This referendum is necessary due largely to the way the state of Wisconsin funds public schools. Over the last four years alone, state aid to Walworth has fallen by more than $700,000, while local taxes have been reduced by about $75,000.
Costs are also on the rise, affecting transportation, heating, property insurance, equipment, supplies, and more. As a result, the district projects approximately a $1 million decrease in its general fund revenue for the 2023-24 school year.
We invite you to learn more about the district’s needs and the proposed solution on the ballot April 4 by visiting https://www.walworth.k12.wi.us/page/referendum.
